Rivers State Ethnic Youth Leaders Condemns Unlawful Arrest of Governor Fubara's Supporters
The Rivers State Ethnic Youth Leaders Coalition issues a stern condemnation regarding the recent unjust apprehension of Hon. Sokari Goodboy and Ezebunwo Ichemati, steadfast supporters of Governor Fubara. This regrettable incident, reportedly orchestrated at the just concluded PDP NEC meeting at the apparent behest of the FCT Minister, underscores deep-seated concerns regarding political interference within law enforcement processes.
Such actions, undertaken under questionable circumstances, gravely undermine the principles of justice and fair treatment enshrined in our democratic ethos. The Rivers State Ethnic Youth Leaders Coalition stands resolutely united in demanding the immediate release of Sokari and Ichemati, whose arbitrary detention represents a blatant violation of their fundamental rights.
We call on the Nigerian Police to abstain from involvement in politics and instead prioritize impartiality and adherence to the rule of law. Additionally, we fervently implore all proponents of justice and civil society entities to unite with us in resolutely condemning this flagrant violation, which starkly contradicts the foundational principles of equity.
Furthermore, we call upon the Inspector General of Police to promptly intervene and facilitate the immediate release of Sokari and Ichemati. Failure to do so will compel the Rivers State Ethnic Youth Leaders Coalition to stage a peaceful protest at the Rivers State Police Headquarters, demanding justice and the their unconditional.
The Rivers State Ethnic Youth Leaders Coalition remains steadfast in our commitment to upholding the principles of fairness, equality, and justice for all.
Signed:
Dr. Legborsi Yamaabana
